I spotted this deconstructed French chair while shopping in Postcards From Paris a few weeks ago.
Here is one similar from Restoration Hardware.
Just curious.....would you buy something like this for your home?
It looks like a chair I am in the middle of tearing apart.
On another note, I am taking a little blogging break to go to Florida for a week. I will catch up with all of you when I get back.
Mr. Comforts and I plan on spending a lot of time figuring out our next move. Will we build? Will we buy a fixer and House Whisper to it? That is what we will be talking about on the drive down to Florida and back.
Welcome Home,
Penny

No, I would not buy one of those chairs from RH and they cost a fortune for something purposely not finished. Have fun in Florida!!
If I'm going to spend that much money on a piece of furniture I want it to be finished and dressed in beautiful fabric! Have a great trip Penny!
Penny, This style is not for me! The imperfections would drive me crazy. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy Florida.
Hugs, Sherry
It's sort of a neat chair, I could imagine it in a young person's loft, not my home!
Have a wonderful trip!
XO,
Jane
Great conversation pieces and look awesome in pics but as far as functional in an everyday home, I say no Penny. I wouldn't spend the money on it. If I was a photographer or had a show home. Only then. Have a fun and safe trip to FL! We have four weeks till we head over that way and can't wait!
We are doing the same thing as you.... trying to decide where to buy or build next year after Hubby retires the end of this year. We can go anywhere and it's a daunting thought. :-))
That whole look is taking the design aesthetic too far. I know Scandinavian and the gray look is popular but this is pushing the envelope just to be different. I have a feeling Restoration Hardware will be rethinking this look.
Enjoy your trip to Florida Penny. Looking forward to your return.
Hugs, Penny
I got the Restoration Hardware catalog and looked at that chair and thought, who on earth would want that in their house? I love old things, but there is a limit to the grunge I'm willing to put up with. I think the chair you found would be so beautiful redone, you proved you can work miracles on that settee!
have a great trip planning out the next phase of your life! Its what keeps you young, mixing it up! I am not gonna buy a deconstructed chair...I might make one by ripping off the fabric, but I don't need to pay extra for one!
No way - after kids and pets I've had enough ragged furniture and rugs. I enjoy the shabby chic look as long as it's big on chic and not so big on shabby!
I wouldn't buy either of those chairs because they look ridiculous and Mr. Bird Nest would kill me. He'd probably think I finally lost my mind.
Have a safe trip and I can't wait to hear what you two decide.

No on the chair, not for me! Enjoy your trip Penny!
No way! Reminds me of some of those extremely holey jeans they sell these days.
Have a wonderful time in Florida. :)
Yes, definitely would (your style of chair NOT the RH version) IF I had another corner somewhere in my little house! It would not be practical for everyday seating BUT it would be a fabulous 'art chair'. I actually do have a very similar French chair already but had it reupholstered in linen after I stripped it back and painted it! Love that one, and yes I do sit on it often.
Safe travels dear - have a wonderful time and I'll see you soon!
Hugs - Mary
Is that the new thing? No, definitely would not. I've spent my entire life trying to avoid that look. Ha! Have a happy trip to Florida and may all the big questions be resolved happily and well.
No, I would not buy a chair like that! It reminds me of the projects waiting in my garage! Have a safe and wonderful trip. May your decisions be simple and just right! We are leaving for a driving vacation to a family reunion in Kansas. We will be discussing all the ramifications and details needed for my sweetheart to retire later this summer. More to do lists in our futures, my friend!

I'm sure in the right setting it would look ok. However, I couldn't/wouldn't have one!
Have a great trip.
Not really my style at all.
Have a wonderful and relaxing trip. I wish I was going with you.
No it's not my taste. Have a great trip.
I like the rustic appeal of it, but it would not look right in my home. It's a bit too unfinished looking for me. Lucky you going to Florida. Hope you come back with a renewed sense of direction!
Oh my, not me either! Enjoy your trip to Florida, come back with some pictures for us!
Nope...not my kind of chair. :)
Have a safe and fun trip....

I don't want to buy one of those chairs, it looks so naked. New houses are exciting and we are looking at buying one in two years, but keeping the ranch.
The chairs are both interesting but not my style. Hope you are having a great vacation. It will be interesting to hear if you decide to build or buy.

Restoration Hardware is my very favorite store, but this chair is a turn off for me.
That's not my style so no I wouldn't buy it. But I think they're kind of cool and can see why some people might be drawn to them.
Have fun in Florida!
Penny-a little too unfinished for me-love the look though...have fun in florida & tell your sister I said HI! xoxo
I can't imagine they will sell a lot of those chairs!
That isn't one of my favorite looks, I have to admit. I could never have a chair like that in my house; every time I looked at it I would feel it needed finishing. It would drive me crazy.
So funny you should ask this question, Penny.
I just saw this chair yesterday online and thought.... "Whaaaaat?"
Seriously?
I don't get it.
They are trying to hard to be shabby! They've crossed the line, right?!
Too funny.
Great question.
:)
