Last October I purchased an old raggedy looking French Settee. The fabric was stained, the paint job was a bad faux gold with globs of red.
I knew it would be beautiful reupholstered and painted. I had never tackled an upholstery job like this before, but I was up for a challenge.
Here is Colette....all finished and pretty.
And here she is....perfect Frenchness!
Here is Colette when I first found her, with her stained fabric and faux gold finish.
She seems very happy...in my master bedroom. All she needs now is a pretty French painting over her, on the wall.
I used a painter's drop cloth as the fabric....it looks like French linen.
Here is an inspiration picture....From Country French Magazine.
If you want, in the next few days, I will do a tutorial on how I did this, including the paint technique and how I recovered her.
Welcome Home,
Penny

If Colette ever wants a new home, she can come live at my house. She is beautiful. I love how she looks in your bedroom. That's a great place for her. I use dropcloths alot too. Isn't it amazing how much it looks like high quality fabric when you use it for drapes or furniture? Who knew?

That is beautiful. I love country French, and anything toile. I'm currently redoing a bedroom for my daughter, and was thinking that the painter's cloth I used would be the perfect fabric for the lining on a large fabric swag over her bed. Thanks for sharing. Now that I see it on a piece of furniture and it looks great, I know it will work.
Ooh la la!! Love the simplicity of the settee combined with the punch of the read and yellow.
Perfection.

Every sofa should be so fortunate to be rescued and returned to glory. Your work is beautiful. Very accomplished. I also found a forlorn sofa I called a "grande dame" and recently made her a new ball-gown in the guise of a white slip cover. I know your sofa and mind would share secrets, I look forward to your forthcoming projects. You are very talented. Virginia
